Litterati Group

The Litterati group of volunteers was formed by the late Sylvia Hookem in 2009 in response to concerns about the amount of litter around Hessle. The group is made up of residents who are passionate about keeping Hessle clean and tidy for residents and visitors.

In 2013, the group received the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Chairman’s Award for the Environment inrecognition of the work carried out by the volunteers.

Most of the volunteers collect litter on the fourth Saturday of the month but many work whilst walking their dogs or visiting the shops on days and areas to suit them.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council provide all the necessary equipment (gloves, bags, etc.) and collect the full bags of litter.

The group is always looking for new volunteers and would welcome your support. If you are interested, please contact Hessle Town Council on 01482 648566 or email htc@hessletown.karoo.co.uk who will pass on your details to the organiser.
